On 17 February 2026, following the Third Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology between Romania and Japan, hosted by Horia Hulubei National Institute for Research and Development in Physics and Nuclear Engineering. a high-level Japanese delegation visited the Măgurele Centre for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies (MARS).

The delegation, led by Japan’s Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation and including representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), also visited the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP) facilities.

At MARS, operated by the Remote Sensing Department of INOE 2000, discussions focused on atmospheric physics, aerosol monitoring, remote sensing and future collaboration in climate and environmental research.
