ACTRIS-ERIC visit to the Center for Aerosol Remote Sensing (CARS) led by INOE

Eija Juurola (Interim ACTRIS General Director), Paolo Laj (ACTRIS scientific chair) and Niku Kivekas (senior Officer Operations) from the Head Office ACTRIS visited INOE, more precisely MARS - Magurele Centre for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies, during 22-23 of February 2024.
The meeting was hosted by Doina Nicolae CARS leader, along with Livio Belegante Head of the INOE CARS unit. Other CARS leaders from several countries were present: Ina Mattis (DWD, Germany), Alexander Geiss (LMU, Germany), Lucia Mona (CNR, Italy), Nikolaos Siomos (LMU, Germany), Aldo Amodeo (CNR, Italy). Philippe Golub (University of Lille, France), Carlos Toledano (University of Valladolid, Spain), Africa Barreto (AEMET, Spain), Stelios Kazadzis (PMODWRC, Switzerland) and other members of the CARS team have participated online.

Between 13-17 November 2023, INOE participates in The ESA-JAXA Pre-Launch EarthCARE Science and Validation Workshop hosted by ESA-ESRIN, in Frascati, Italy. The event is part of ESA’s mission: Earth Cloud, Aerosol and Radiation Explorer - EarthCARE.

European Lidar Conference

The European Lidar Conference (ELC) takes place between September 13-15, 2023, in Cluj-Napoca under the auspices of ACTRIS-RO, being hosted by Babeș-Bolyai University. The conference brings together European scientists from academic and private sectors focused on remote sensing to communicate cutting-edge research results related to lidar systems applications in atmospheric and climate studies, the development of new technologies, methods and algorithms.

Conferința Europeană de Lidar (ELC) se desfășoară în perioada 13-15 septembrie 2023, la Cluj-Napoca sub egida ACTRIS-RO, fiind găzduită de Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai. Aceasta aduce împreună reprezentanți din Europa ai mediului academic și privat specializați în teledetecție pentru a comunica rezultatele cercetărilor de ultimă oră privind aplicațiile sitemelor lidar în studiile atmosferice și climatice, dezvoltarea de noi tehnologii, metode și algoritmi.

PROBE participants are meeting in beautiful Budapest this year!

We are happy to announce that the annual Cost Action CA18235 - PROfiling the atmospheric Boundary layer at European scale (PROBE) general meeting with all working groups and The 7th Management Committee (MC) meeting will take place in Budapest, Hungary, between 25 and 27 of September 2023. About 65 participants are expected from all over Europe.
Our colleague, Dr. Anca Nemuc, is the Grant Holder Scientific Representative.

Suntem bucuroși să vă anunțăm că reuniunea generală anuală a Acțiunii Cost CA18235 - PROfiling the atmospheric Boundary layer at European scale (PROBE) cu toate grupurile de lucru, precum și a 7-a reuniune a Comitetului de Management (MC), va avea loc în perioada 25-27 septembrie 2023 în Budapesta, Ungaria. Sunt așteptați aproximativ 65 de participanți din toată Europa.

ACTRIS Center for Aerosol Remote Sensing (CARS) și PROBE CA18235 invită în perioada 27-29 iunie 2023 oamenii de știință care lucrează în domeniul aerosolilor lidar de mare putere la o școală de formare intitulată „Hands-on training on aerosol measurement lidar quality assurance procedures and tools”, organizata de INOE la MARS/Măgurele Center for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies.
Adaptation and mitigation potentials of surface-based solar radiation management
Joi, 22.09.2022, Dr. Ye TAO, reprezentant MEER, va susține în cadrul Magurele center for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies (MARS) prelegerea intitulată "Adaptation and mitigation potentials of surface-based solar radiation management".
Global warming is an urgent threat to which humans have responded with calls for greenhouse gas mitigation [1]. Yet, by itself, conventional mitigation will produce barely-measurable improvement in Earth’s multi-decadal climate trajectory [2,3]. This trajectory is driven by persistent imbalance in Earth’s energy budget, reaching a record surplus of 780 terawatt (tera = 1012) in 2021 [4]. A dozen peer-reviewed studies of the climate impact of COVID19 lockdown measures confirm the existence of another 700 terawatt (1.3 W m-2) of heating power that is currently masked by aerosol-forming, short-lived components in fossil fuel emissions [5-7]. In total, Earth’s outstanding energy imbalance is about 80 times the global power consumption (18 terawatt) and locks in >1°C of additional warming [8]. Therefore, to limit global warming to below 2°C we must also address the problem of committed warming [9].
