From 7 to 9 October 2026, INOE organised the second edition of the International Conference on Optoelectronics and Heritage Science (OPTO-HS 2026), hosted by the National History Museum of Romania in Bucharest.
The event brought together approximately 100 researchers, professionals, and students from Romania and abroad to exchange recent advances in optoelectronic technologies, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytical methods for cultural heritage investigation and conservation.
On 6 October 2026, as part of the Enhanced Dialogue between Romania and the European Commission on research and innovation, the Măgurele Center for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies (MARS) hosted a technical visit by the delegation attending the event.
The National Institute for Research and Development for Optoelectronics – INOE 2000, through the Institute of Hydraulics and Pneumatics in Bucharest, was awarded the AGIR Trophy, in the Mechanical Engineering section, for the creation of the “Teaching Stand for Automatic Systems for Pumping Systems Powered by Renewable Energy”.
The distinction was awarded during the celebration organized by the General Association of Engineers of Romania – AGIR, on the occasion of the Romanian Engineer’s Day, on September 11, 2026.
On 17 July 2026, our colleague Senior Researcher Dr. Doina-Nicoleta NICOLAE publicly defended her habilitation thesis in Environmental Science at the Institute for Doctoral Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University.
Entitled “Contributions to atmospheric research through lidar developments and multi-sensor synergy on a European scale”, the thesis highlights significant contributions to atmospheric research through lidar technology development and multi-sensor integration, as well as the research activity carried out within the Remote Sensing Department of INOE 2000 at national and international level.
We congratulate Doina-Nicoleta NICOLAE on this achievement and wish her continued success in supervising future generations of doctoral students and developing new research directions.
On 17 February 2026, following the Third Joint Committee on Cooperation in Science and Technology between Romania and Japan, hosted by Horia Hulubei National Institute for Research and Development in Physics and Nuclear Engineering. a high-level Japanese delegation visited the Măgurele Centre for Atmosphere and Radiation Studies (MARS).
The delegation, led by Japan’s Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation and including representatives from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), also visited the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP) facilities.
Between 7–10 November 2025, researchers from ICIA Cluj-Napoca, a branch of INOE 2000, represented the institute at The 7th International Congress on Food Science and Technology, held at Metropolitan Expo, Athens.
The participation of ICIA took place within the framework of the METROFOOD-RO Evolve project (SMIS 309287), aiming to disseminate results on the valorization of coffee residues as a protein source and to strengthen international collaboration within the METROFOOD-RI network.

The 2025 edition of the International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering (DeSE) marks the 18th anniversary of this prestigious event.
This year, DeSE 2025 will be hosted and co-organized by the National Institute for Research and Development in Optoelectronics – INOE 2000, from 10–12 November 2025, at the Sheraton Hotel in Bucharest, Romania (https://dese.ai/dese-2025/).
October 17, 2025 – The latest issue of InHouse (No. 89) by the Romanian National Authority for Research includes a special feature (pp. 14–15) on monitoring the air pollution impact of the recent fire in Pantelimon, Bucharest.
Using the ACTRIS infrastructure, researchers tracked pollutant dispersion and air quality changes across Bucharest and nearby areas. The data offers valuable insight into short-term pollution spikes and public health implications.
Florence, 12–14 November 2025 – E-RIHS will host the E-RIHS ERIC Opening Days, a three-day event designed to bring together members, partners, and stakeholders.
The Open Days will take place at the Central Hub in Florence, located in the regenerated industrial site of Manifattura Tabacchi, the permanent headquarters of E-RIHS ERIC.

National Institute of Reseach and Development for Optoelectronics INOE 2000 participated in the prestigious International Salon of Inventions and Innovations „Traian Vuia”, held in Timișoara, during 3–4 October 2025.
Our colleague, Dr. eng. Alina Dragomir received the Gold Medal from the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, in recognition of her contributions in the field of optoelectronics..
The Ministry of Education and Research, through the National Research Authority, has appointed independent expert evaluators to assess the performance of 18 research organizations in Romania, under Law no. 25/2023. The evaluation process, which will later be extended nationwide, aims to ensure a transparent and objective analysis aligned with the standards of the European Research Area.
The initiative seeks to strengthen international competitiveness, support institutional modernization, and link research funding directly to demonstrated performance.
“This is one of the most important reforms in the Romanian academic environment, which will redefine the architecture of the national research and higher education systems,” stated Prof. Daniel David, Minister of Education and Research.

On the evening of 23 September 2025, a large fire broke out at a warehouse in Sector 2 of Bucharest, on the former Antrefrig industrial platform in Pantelimon. At the time of the fire, the Bucharest area was under stable atmospheric conditions with light to moderate winds from the northeast and east, directing smoke towards the observatory. Smoke particles were distributed from ground level up to 400 m altitude.
Around 23:00, RADO-Bucharest instruments recorded:

Instantaneous PM1 mass concentrations about five times higher than on the previous day;

PM10 mass concentrations reaching up to 150 µg/m³.
The General Association of Engineers in Romania (AGIR) has granted the prestigious “Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu” Prize, an award dedicated to women engineers distinguished by professional excellence, to Dr. Eng. Roxana Rădvan, Director of the National Institute for Research and Development in Optoelectronics – INOE 2000.
This recognition honors the outstanding contributions of Dr. Eng. Roxana Rădvan in applied scientific research, technological innovation, and institutional leadership, highlighting the essential role of women engineers in the advancement of science and technology in Romania.
